There are jams, jellies, ice creams, tools, textiles and more handmade products by real people with a penchant for their crafts. We call it the new economy: do what you know how and make a living doing it.

It never ceases to amaze how many talented people there are crafting products in their sheds, garages, barns and basements. It’s this kind of honest skill set that built our country and can rebuild it again.

Beekman Blaak cheese

As made in America as you can get

You remember the old days: You bought a farm, you looked around and wondered how you were going to make a living off the land. Made in America is what you did. You had to make something to forge a living.

Maybe you decided on goats the way The Fabulous Beekman Boys (Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Dr. Brent Ridge) did.

From goats came cheese and groovy soaps. Next came honey and jams. Then came a small store in Sharon Springs NY. Then the best-selling books rolled out based on their farming experiences.

Beekman 1802 is made in America any way you look at it. Their Blaak cheese is a world-famous Italian-style semi-hard cheese.

When I asked Brent about other products in his store, he replied:

Yes, all of our products are made in America. Most of them are made within a 10 mile radius of our farm, including the fingertip towels.

Just in time for Valentines, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day  - all the days when you tell your loved ones that you’re thinking of them, Life Made American finds the adorable Mr. Ferguson’s Greeting Cards.

Delightful, different and handmade in a tiny studio in Pasadena, California by lifelong artist Jay Ferguson Carlton.

More, you can buy his art on canvas too, for children’s bedrooms and happy corners around your home.

Post image for Starbuck’s Indivisible wristband supports made in America

Well, since their coffee comes from all over the planet….but wait, Starbucks does employ a few hundred thousand people, so we can’t leave them out of the lineup of Made in America companies, can we?

Something that IS  a 100-percent made in America is the Starbucks Indivisible wristband – on sale now to support “large scale U.S. manufacturing,” according to their website.

Your $5 wristband purchase is a donation to the Create Jobs for USA Fund that supplies financing to community businesses. Starbucks put up the first 5 million, the rest of the fund will come from the wristband purchases by us.

Post image for James Perse furniture made in America

James Perse sounds familiar to fashionistas that follow his clothing design. But new in his creative releases is furniture made entirely in the USA.

Not only is James Perse’s Malibu Collection constructed to use indoors or out with Sunbrella fabrics and teak frame, it has a certain casual comfort in the lines and the kind of deep cushions that induce a nap.

If not outside, perhaps in front of that bay window where everything else fades.

Finding American-made cars is a little confusing, if you consider that the parts come from all corners of the planet. And you can’t assume that if it’s an American brand, that it comes from here, either.

Meet Icon – a jeep made entirely in Los Angeles. Not only made, but hand-made. Not only hand-made, but made to order exactly as you want it.

Launched by Jonathan Ward, whose concept it was to cross vintage styling with modern amenities.
